Let's try and keep a grip on reality. Have a look at this - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/30/AR2009093003569.html - I mean really, it's time we started to face up to the facts. We all care for our planet, but this has to be based on the evidence, not on some ideological mind-set.

Matthew D'Ancona sounds like something out of Atlas Shrugged. Maybe he hasn't resigned but merely gone Galt, as they say these days. As long as they keep publishing Jeremy Clarke's Low Life column online, I'll continue visiting the Spectator site each week to read it, for free.

The Speccie, as a sheltered workshop for undead thatcherites, was a good alternative to the oft-failed relaunched Punch as a humour magazine - the Eye having become tellibly, tellibly serious since the death of drunken Peter Cook who, like Churchill took more from booze than it ever took from him except, mayhap, his life. Vale & RIP, hic!
So typical the depths to which it has fallen, since the loony Barclay Twins acquired it, that it was Delingpole, who has often written of his wet dreams of blowing of Taliban heads with a BIG gun, that wrote the encomium of Plimer.
Addison & Steele would be clawing at their graves to get at the current poseurs in that, once worthy, organ.

How do we ever convince much of the public that journals and journalists might not always be telling the truth? That they might intentionally or unintentionally, get things wrong? That they can even be (to use a word used above) 'mischievous".

I like to use the occasional moment when a story is reported, that a person knows the details about personally. I like to ask: is it accurate? Are the facts correct? Is it a fair and balanced report? And nearly always the answer is no no no. I then suggest that if rushed media makes a mess of stories they are familiar with, why on earth do they trust them on every other story?

Much of the media today is just another form of entertainment. This article simply demonstrates that once again.
