Philostrate, Nicole Cornes achieved a 2.5% swing towards on two-party-preferred basis, bringing the margin down to 53:47 in a seat the ALP has not held in about 60 years. This is actually a pretty decent result in the circumstances, where it must be remembered that this electorate contains an extraordinary number of rusted-on Liberal voters.

While much was made of the alleged folly of the Cornes preselection, she was actually a less potentially-vote-losing candidate than would most likely have been preselected through a more branch-oriented process. The candidate who was most likely to be preselected based on local profile spat his dummy and went to the Greens shortly after Cornes was preselected. Not exactly a mark of alliegance to Labor, and in fact it was the predisposition to this sort of behaviour which was the precise reason why factional heavies felt the need to parachute Cornes in in the first place.

Cornes was not 'hung out to dry' by anyone but the media who presumed she was a no-brain bimbo. Admittedly, her own columns in the Adelaide Sunday Mail published prior to her preselection did little to diminish this but she was accepted in the electorate as being in-touch with the community and her election results reflect this.

With respect to SA, you forgot to include the important "Nicole Cornes in Boothby precedent" - ie you are parachuted into a winnable seat by a couple of ALP heavies riding roughshod over the official guff published above, then hung out to dry. Result - you defy national trends and actually achieve a swing against your own party!

And learn how to spell hypocrisy. Being loose with other peoples money but not your own is also considered a common character trait, and corruption, so long as it is amongst mates, is expected at all times! Double standards are necessary to compliment the hypocrisy.

You forgot about, you have to marry in to the Labor Party to get a seat.
