In the past the AFL footy show was reasonable viewing with Everywhere Eddie hosting, as he kept the show from turning to the buffoonary it has now become. Mind you it achieves a higher standard of brain usage than the NRL cross-dressing version. Still it says a lot about the viewing public if these shows still receive high ratings.

Good old Sam Newman, always good for a quote: "I don't know if we're the arbiters of moral righteousness".

Ahahahaha.

Here in the North we are starved of AFL news and so one must watch this third rate show if one wants to glean little snippets of what's going on amongst all the dross that is presented. Brendan Fevola is a brilliant footballer but he doesn't "love" a beer, he is an alcoholic - meaning he should never drink. For people like Newman, who is the lowest common denominator, to take the high moral ground is an absolute joke. All this advice to Fev to pull his socks up and just not drink is about as useful as telling a fish to stay out of the water. He doesn't need counselling - the only advantage of this is to enhance the pocket, reputation and ego of the counsellor. He needs a program that will enable him to live a fulfilling life without the need for alcohol. I have first-hand experience of this. It cannot be found with professional help. The only 'professionals' needed are those who have been there. I sincerely hope someone at Carlton, the AFL,the AFLPA or whoever is offering him advice tells him this. It would be a real shame for such prodigious talent to be wasted.

the choice is easy, don't watch it. I personally like the footy show, it is funny, light hearted and my way of relaxation on a Thursday night. Its an institution and as long as channel 9 has it, will continue to bring in the ratings!

Don't watch it, never will watch it. Double standards, hipocrites, and lowest common denominator TV. Here's hoping Kama catches up with them sooner rather than later.

Would you expect anything else from Ch 9 and this excuse for a TV program? As long as it rates, who cares! So glad I never watch this immature, juvenile show.

And Heathdon McGregor, previous interviewers may have been drunk, but times have changed, in case you hadn't noticed.

Perhaps Crikey could run a highlight video of the street talk from the Brownlow going back as many years as you like and see how it is traditional for the interviewer to be the most drunken person on screen.
