I am the father of one of those involved in organising Youth Decide, and am immensely proud of what she and her colleagues achieved. That these young people are so energetic and so optimistic in their endeavours is something we should all be grateful for. It will be they who change this planet - and it would be well for their elders to take note - especially the politicians.
Rock on!

Yes, its a bit simplistic but where you sit on the future of the planet has a lot to do with how long you expect to be around. Those of us who are not dealing with the issue by denying its existance will all, of course, claim that we would never do anything to harm our children. But if that was the case, we would not be here because, afterall, its been a 50 year journey. So I think youth opinions, which will of course be those of young people, are fairly relevant.

I voted for World 3 because I want more trees and less black smoggy clouds coming out of big ugly factories. In future, please arrange to have my gadgets and accessories made in underground, non-cloud generating factories.

'Implicitly, it seems, saying yes to the environment is saying no to old folks and old ways--something that no generation before ours has legitimately been able to argue.'

Which is 'our' generation - the writer's? - how old are you? This reader was saying 'yes' to the environment, and no to old ways, in the days of Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring' and Joan Baez singing 'Just a little rain ...' not to mention Bob Dylan's 'The times they are a-changing' (Mothers and fathers throughout the land, don't criticise what you don't understand etcetera).

I'm just sorry it all had so little effect and that now a younger generation has to try again.

Juvenile hyperbole with no historical sense.
