This is an excellent analysis of the stimulus package chosen by the US Government.

It was always going to be hard to understand how giving money to overleveraged banks would help the economy. It was always going to help the banks - by reducing their leverage - but they cannot deleverage AND lend the money. Not to mention that consumers/debtors don't want to borrow more money at the moment.

Why do you give doomsayer Steve Keen space in Crikey? He has been preaching doom and gloom for years and has been wrong everytime. He likes the publicity and notoriety but apart from that his wacky views are a waste of space.

House prices in Australia will not crash anytime soon with government grants boosting prices and full-on immigration combining to create a 50,000 shortfall in housing each year. The government's survival depends on house prices staying high and they will do anything to help keep prices high, even to the detriment of the economy. Alex
