Surely the real similarity is that both were consumate failures?
Bummer..sorry, Bomber “I always believe everything the security forces tell me” Beazley never won a party room ballot when there was a challenger, turned his safest of WA seats into preference marginals and so bored the electorate rigid with his self described ”loquacity”, and his cowardly ‘small target’ (sic!?) strategy that he could even beat the most loathed PM since WWII.
I can’t even be bothered with Brendan.

Bernard, I know the word “desserts” seems appropriate in that a plum diplomatic posting should follow the main course of a political career but you will find, as I did not that long ago, that a dictionary will explain why the correct word is ‘deserts’. It’s not about dry old places in the outback it’s all about ‘deserving’.
And I agree that Beazley and Nelson, and Tim Fischer before them, are deserving of a diplomatic post. Peter Costello? Put him in the Amanda Vanstone category. Or give him New Zealand - for his sins.
