I didn;’t say that I was quoting LBJ. It was generally remarked of Ford that he couldnt walk and chew gum, during his presidency, after he had a couple of specatcular falls on staircases etc. By that time LBJ had been dead a coupla years. LBkJ may have originated the comment, which was subsequently wikied in the telling

Guy - I admire the way you write from the top of your voluminous & well stocked head, eschewing the wankerism of Googling but, for the record, LBJ actually said of Ford, in his red dirt way “So dumb he can’t fart & chew gum at the same time”.
I won’t offend the delicate sensibilities of Crikey readers by repeating exactly what he said of his fellow citizens of the tinted persuasion, when signing the Civil Rights Bill that he correctly opined would lose the Democrats the South for at least a generation but, to paraphrase it referring to comfortable shoes, satisfying loving and indoor plumbing.
Wot CLH/Rowan & Kebab sed - I think/hope that it may have been BO’s version of W/W’s Bartlett comment about “..a .22 calibre mind in a .45 magnum world”. Please , please let it be so.

C’mon, the jackass “gaffe” could not have provided more of a boost for Hopey had it been planned in advance and both starlets were in on it. Just be thankful Kanye wasn’t Kid Rock and Swift wasn’t Rihanna. If you’re still waiting for an Incredible Hulk moment, I think you’ll be waiting a while.

Guy, other than NUBO, your frustration is really with the american political system which is in its terminal phase. The Republican dysfunction was probably inevitable given that their fantasy world of a unipolar universe with all-dominant America was impossible. Essentially we are seeing what happens in a system when Darwinian evolution is stalled. Americans, or enough of them, cannot see that the world has changed and that they cannot continue they way they have for the past 3 decades. But they cannot see any alternative (because it always looks communist to them). As in California they are starting to seize up as they proceed down an evolutionary cul-de-sac. If Obama stops them hitting the brick wall at the end of this blind alley, that will already be a big achievement.
Besides, he had lunch with the big dog yesterday in New York, so I am sure Bill told him how to solve it all….
