Good letter and the offence by the mastheads is multiple and continuous and often more serious than your complaint but the journalists (& publishing) profession (probably because it rubs shoulders with the public very visiably in all of its activities) isn’t as ugly, quite criminal and obnoxious as my beloved medical profession (with only lives at stake that are prepared to forgive them anything) which could make your complaint against the publishing profession look like trivial naughtiness.

I recently replied to a Crikey reader survey, and made a similar point that Crikey is one of the few arenas where alternate voices can be heard, and arguments can develop. I cited an excellent piece written by the father of a sick child in response to the Chaser sketch that said everything that needed to be said without the self-righteous hair rending.

What Day seemed not to understand when he criticised Crikey for lodging a complaint regarding the Hanson fakes, and which Margaret Simons alludes to in her reply, is that Crikey is a collection of individuals (three men and a dog), who act as individuals, and not a corporate masthead monolith pushing its proprietor’s agenda.

this is the essence of what is great about Crikey, and why it is almost as good as a hand job from Jesus.

(much as I laugh at Rundle, you could try to humble him a little. One appearance on ‘Q and A’ and he thinks he’s Gore bloody Vidal. And spare us his poetry.)
