Just by the law of averages, Qantas is overdue for a big one, 'banging one in' with a total hull loss and many casualties but these disclosures show that it's really just a matter of time now. I posted an item a while ago where a contracted engineer who had worked in Singapore servicing QF planes told me that QF had only one of their engineers supervising up to 10 local mechanics. How could that one engineer confidently supervise and sign-off the work being done. I will only be flying QF from now on if no other carrier is available. Alex

After working closely with CASA airworthiness surveyors for about 18 months I learned that Australian air passengers should make sacrifice and libations to the gods of weather, thanking them for Australia's relative warmth and lack of wind shear.

The best story they told me was of the 737 that had a reverse thruster warning light coming on (a reverse thruster fault caused the Lauda Air 737 crash) so to get the plane to its destination the sensor was deactivated.

"Safety and compliance are our number one priorities" Err Pythonesque and patently false. It is utterly dishonest for a commercial enterprise to say that safety is their paramount priority. Profit is. They don't want planes to crash so they can make money but they don't want to make planes as safe as they can be cause it costs money.
