As I’ve said before, the really beaut thing about being an economist is that it doesn’t matter if you’re wrong … ever. The guys at the Bureau of Meteorology get it stuck up them by all and sundry if they predict the wrong weather, but have you ever heard of an economist being taken to task publicly for a wrong prediction?

Short of criminal behaviour, how does an economist get fired?

“Firstly, more than a hundred studies have demonstrated that alcohol consumption changes with price — on average a 10% price increase will reduce total consumption by around 5% (it’s worth noting that, when people have looked, this reduction occurs among heavy drinkers as well as moderate drinkers and among young people).” - Really I would have thought that the likely result with heavy drinkers, particularly those with fewer monetary resources, would have been to drink cheaper bulk varieties. Cask wine rather than bottled. Home brew beer rather than retail, and/or drink at home rather than in a bar.

@Lori Weightman: While I know nothing about the electoral boundary issue in Herbert, your logical argument is based on a fallacy. There’s no reason why a protect campaign can’t be both “orchestrated” and “hand written”.
