The thought of Ron Walker being the first ASX100 chairman/CEO primed to be turfed out of his cushy job. From the days when the red fright was Lord Mayor of Melbourne, when he and wifey were on a rate-payer funded trip to Monaco and they took as the obligatory present to the wife of host, Prince Rainier, (Princess Grace aka Grace Kelly): was it an Albert Tucker, Syd Nolan, James Gleeson, or John Olsen sketch, watercolour...something tasteful yet Australian? Nope. With gut wrenching Oz ordinariness they presented HSH with a stuffed, kangaroo-skin, koala. Oh no! Oh yes! If I had of been Her Serene Highness, but that's another story. Not content with that bit of aesthetic, cultural, anti-conservationist vandalism, Big Red payed a fortune to the Victorian Liberal/country Party coalition to field a yearly Grand Prix. Where a whole lot of tiny little men with even smaller Prixes climb into huge machines, spend three days chasing another group of even tinier Prixes around one of Melbourne's desperately needed green spaces, Albert Park. In the process turning Melbourne into a miniature Shanghai of pollution.Who knows? Losing the chairmanship of Fairfax may lose him the creds of a man called Bernie Ecclestone, who has the tiniest Prix of all. What a lovely Summer present!
