@Sharon: So you 'treasure' our national parks, and at the same time are willing to let feral animals destroy them? Seems like a contradiction there.

Thanks Bakerboy - care to comment on the Medieval and Roman warming periods, which were both warmer than now? Did the world face a crisis back then?

And my point was really that 0.18C of warming just doesn't seem like a crisis or something that is going to fundamentally change our society. Care to comment on how 0.18C of warming will lead to an apocalypse?

Oh, I know - the computer models say that it's going to get much, much warmer. Just that there's no sign of that happening yet so please rouse me to a panic when it actually does.

Gavin Moodie writes: Re. “Uh oh. Could Australia be headed for negative growth?” (yesterday, item 2). Would Crikey please stop using that neologistic oxymoron “negative growth” and use instead the perfectly good English word: contraction.

Yes, indeed, the question really should be: Will we have two consecutive periods of positive contraction?

Tamas Calderwood - there it is for you and Andrew Bolt to ponder - Australia has just had the warmest winter on record, irrefutable proof that the planet is warming. (just as sensible as the climate change deniers) Alex
