Qantas has been seriously caught out operationally through the failure of Boeing to deliver any 787s.... and one has to wonder how long the airline can continue to run its ageing 767 fleet which is expensive to maintain, ill-equipped for a modern 'full service' carrier, unreliable and has no value to any other carrier, thus making them virtually unsalable. While the A380 was a wise investment, they must rue the day they opted against buying B777s...

By the way: any reference in the accounts to compensation payments from Boeing for late deliveries in the half year? These accounted for a significant chunk of the comparable profits last year...

Amazing isn't it. The profits generated from an all ready sucessful loyalty programme were an important profit centre for Qantas this year. As a loyalty programme user who has appreciated using the Frequent Flyers incentives for many years, suddenly the rules changed earlier year demanding that we get behind certain retailers and credit card holders to maintain our entitlements. As yet we haven't, now opting to take adantage of advertised specials, but not automatically on Qantas. Previously we would have flown part Frequent Flyer and part paid. To the casual observer the question has to be asked, if it wasn't so broken why such a radical change and the potential to desenfranchise some of the existing members?
