Where do I start. The CFA is a waste of space, a totally incompetent organisation that contributed to the deaths of 173 Victorians. Black Saturday, the weather was forecast to be 46 degrees and a strong wind change from the south west, a no brainer that a firestorm of epic proportions was likely. What did the CFA do? not much. It wasn’t their job to warn people it says. WTF - are they a fire service or not? What to do? First, create just one fire service for Victoria (like Queensland). The MFB weren’t allowed to help with the country fires. No more bureaucratic infighting. Second, change the rules about living in forested areas, all residents must have some sort of fire resistant shelter. A concrete drainage pipe laid into a shallow culvert will do for most fires. Thirdly, a decent warning system. It’s the 21st century people, use technology to provide a comprehensive and layered communication system across the State. Finally, sack Rees.
