Where is your evidence that 'Banning donations, and moving to a system of full public funding of political parties, won’t be popular with the public'? I envisage (I confess I don't have the evidence) that there will be enormous savings which will benefit the public and the democratic system, hugely. There is plenty of evidence that corruption is very costly. Imagine, if instead of fundraisers, there were real 'party' meetings with lively political discussions, then it would not be such a bad idea to actually join a political party.

I beg to differ Bernard, full public funding of political parties will be very popular with me. It is essential to remove the actual and perceived taint of special pleading and to remove the temptation for politicians to do favours for donors.
