Monty Python are prescient

Worolowe: Yes, well, I mean, (HACCCK!) you know, four years ago, everyone knew the Italians were coating the insides of their legs with bolognaise, the Russians have been marinating themselves, One of the Germans, Biolek, was actually caught putting, uh, remoulade down his shorts. And the Finns were using tomato flavored running shoes. Uh, I think there should either be unrestricted garnishing or a single, Olympic standard mayonnaise.

Your personal opinion at the end of your post is interesting. But at the end of the day, isn’t a swimming race about who is the best swimmer, not who has the technological edge? I fail to see how a technological advantage “allows the athlete to reach their highest personal potential”. If it was me, I’d ban the lot of them and have them swimming naked.

Consider whether it would be appropriate for an archer to use a crossbow in an archery event. It’s certainly more technologically advanced. But are they the better archer?

But I’d probably also have cyclists using identical Malvern Stars, shot putters using identical shot puts, shooters using identical firearms and sailors using identical boats. Oh wait a minute, scratch the last three, because in Olympic competition, they already do.

" The more children and adults we have wearing these suits on our beaches the less cases of skin cancer we will have to treat." - I can't see many children or their parents being able to pay the reported several hundreds of dollars these suits cost; plus the reported fact that a. you need about 20 minutes to get into them, with assistance, and b.they only last for a few swims.

I would like to hear Lachlan Thompson's views on the new UCI rules relating to time trial bikes, and the past removal of the superman position adopted by Graeme Obree, which again allowed the athlete to reach their personal potential, but the bike bore very little resemblance to the traditional two triangle bicycle frame.

The removal of this technical improvement resulted in the world time trial records being set with the banned technology being erased by the books. Does Lachlan hold a perspective on this?

It would be good if you could explain why these suits are now allowed when standard wetsuits (which also provide good flotation and would enable fast times) have always been out-lawed?
thanks, Rich
