In the words of Tim Geithner, "never let a crisis go to waste". Whatfor is this George Bush impersonation ? Resist this pathetic attempt to take any further freedom away from the Australian people under the guise of saving us from terrorism. Surely no one is buying this crap in 2009! The UK has the feel of being in permanent lockdown and the US has all the legislation and executive orders it needs to declare marshall law at the drop of a pin. Don't let this go on here please. If you wake up for a moment and think about it, the only individuals capable of successfully carrying out major terrorist atrocities are those receiving comprehensive help from people with major financial and military power. That is not some poor peasant in a dusty village somewhere, regardless of his level of contempt for the West.

As Benjamin Franklin said: "People who relinquish their freedom for the prospect of safety usually end up with neither"

Same could be said of Peter Batchelor of the Victorian upper echelons of 'government' calling for more police powers to threaten anti-coal power demonstrators. Plenty of legislation around if the power stations truly felt themselves 'threatened' ...

"Where did he get the wacky and dangerous idea that he needs to further strengthen Australia’s already sweeping and inherently unfair anti-terror laws?"

He got it from Jakarta, when a few murderous dickheads blew up a hotel, gotta be seen to be doing something
