The thing I can't understand in this debate is how many Australian authors seel enough books to earn an overseas print run or is this really about international books being sold in this country without a mark up from local punlishers? How much does the selling of international titles fund the local industry?

The thing I recall most about the music import changes was that imported heavy metal cds went from fifty dollars each to forty and then aligned with the local product. Previously the mark up/cost was/were huge.

Absolutely right Greg. So often forgotten: It is the consumer who is most important when it comes to reading or listening.
