Charles Richardson. Thank you for a fine article. It's more than interesting to see the Chinese leadership desiring an Empire. Historically, through various dynasties,
Imperialism was what being an Emperor was all about. However, the last time a country decided to become an Empire, in the twentieth century, was the Great East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere. The result was war throughout Asia and, of course, WWII, and the country was Japan.
It's passing strange that a country which was so ravished by the Japanese has turned around to emulate them.

It is sad, in South West China, to see the trouble the State takes to make happy villages of Muslim Chinese for the tourist trade, but the minute the tourists look away from this idyllic, bucolic, vision the thuggery against other parts of Muslim China goes unabated.
