Dear John Taylor

The First Dog mouse story was about the fear which envelopes people when they discover a lump or other indication that cancer may be present somehere in a body.

It was also about the relief and euphoria which flows from learning that the sign is benign.

Should it ever happen to you, and I hope it doesn't, you will understand how people feel when it enters their lives.

I think First Dog was sharing that.

I must have been at a different Rock than the one Jim Ivins visited. I walked to it in a state of awe, it was the closest thing I've ever done that made me think it was something called "a religious experience". Climbing the Rock, to me, would have been like pissing in St Peter's, crapping on the altar of anyone's religion. Climbing the Rock was quite clearly and tangibly not something to be done. We walked around the base of the Rock with an elder, being shown the sites and told the stories. It was a peaceful and elevating day. Never to be forgotten and totally transcendent. Don't fly to the Rock, don't treat it like any other tourist destination. It isn't. It's precious, unique and the heart of this continent. Take your time to get there, anticipate it, revere it and finally, be in awe of it. AMEN.
