Thanks for the kind remarks y'all.

Re the black five comments, I could have been less clumsy in my writing. I wasn't trying to infer they would get together, just that they should. That said, I know they won't. Alison Anderson's politics are incompatible with Marion Scrymgour's. But then, so is Tony Abbott's with Petro Georgiou. But Marion's politics are very compatible with Malarndirri McCarthys. If McCarthy were to switch teams now, Labor would be entirely reliant on Aboriginal people to form government.

My point (not well made) was that Aboriginal people in the Territory need to form their own party. They need to flex their political muscle and take control of seats like Daly, Macdonnell, Arafura and Arnhem. Controlling, four seats is more than significant.

Adam Giles, it's worth noting, couldn't possibly win the seat of Braitling if he ran on an Aboriginal ticket - he could only win as an independent, and only then if he builds a strong profile this term.

As Jungarrayi notes good to see some discussion of this notable event and indeed the reverberations from the bilingual education policy as well as the Outstation policy.

However the notion of the 'black five' belies any real understanding of Territory Politics and (regardless of ones own personal views) the diversity of genuine and informed views already stated by the Aboriginal MPs let alone their constituencies (as well as misinformed and misdirected views as in any community in Australia). Alison Anderson for example has been of the key architects of the 'outstation-growth town' policy....

Indeed Scrymgour's resignation had as much to do with caucus infighting (and leaks) as it did with these policy detail - as confirmed by her on Stateline earlier tonight.

Well said....as a Territorian living overseas I follow these developments with interest. Marion Scrymgour is a brave and pricnipled woman and more power to her. She should however have known better than to trust Paul Henderson.
In our 13 years of living in the Territory I saw so much hypocrisy from all politicians regarding Aborginal people it was sickening...thankfully I don't have to vote for any of them anymore.

As a non-aborigial woman, I can only hope that at last, politics in the NT does bring about justice for the original inhabitants. I feel great shame for what's been happening for over 200 years. It's sickening to read the horrible racist comments of so-called 'leaders' of the past. Both major political parties have used and abused aboriginal people for their own ends - they deserve to be thrown out of parliament. Best wishes to all concerned. Now is the time!

Its nice to know that at least some people take notice of what happens in "remote Aboriginal Australia". Yes indeed, the stand taken by Marion Scrymgour, is exciting and greatly admired by us remote residents. I'm glad the "no-brainer policy" axing of bi-lingual is mentioned in the article. Slipping under the radar is that Marion Scrymgour is reported to have expressed "regret" about the "4 hours compulsory English only" policy that she introduced and so angered and dissapointed us. Chief Minister Paul Henderson, who replaced Ms Scrymgour as Education Minister has consistently warded of any appeals to repeal and/or criticism of that policy by saying that he stood by his predecessor... so is he now also going to express "regret"?!
As for the idea of the "NT Black Five", forget about it.
One of the great things about this part of the world is its rich cultural and linguistic diversity. To expect a united political front from a group of "black" politicians is no more realistic than to expect such from a group of "white" politicians.
