The best journalism tells you something about an issue you hadn't otherwise considered, and Noel Turnbull's piece does that - thank you Noel for writing it, and to Crikey for publishing it.

A "24-hour news cycle" is nonsense in the face of complaints about a press release that comes out "after deadline" or just before a public holiday. You can't complain about shrinking budgets in the breathless pursuit of non-stories. There are plenty more stories in the follow-through of the results of half-witted late night compromises, and the assessments of politicians thereby, than you'll ever find in a month of Question Times in Australia's best-subsidised but most boring theatres.

Any recommendations on the best Stone biography?

What a great piece. I thought of Leigh Sales, her veteran father's daughter at Gitmo, falling into a paradigm to get her fodder.

I suppose the great lie in the news today is that the Government could possibly keep people safe from a nasty turn in the swine flu virus, God forbid. Today the story that ran was whether people on their ship cruise had a party or not.
