The asylum seeker problem is one of several including global warming whether government is becoming a victim of its misrepresentation prior to the last election. Appealing to the sensitivities of tree huggers and refugee lovers may have got the government over the line in terms of election, but once in power the nasty consequences have to be dealt with. The substantial increase in people smuggling as a consequence a relaxation of government policy will eventually escalate to a point whether government will have to apply similar constraints to that provided by the previous Liberal government. Similarly with climate change, the necessary consequences of reduction in carbon consumption on standard of living cannot be avoided forever. The duplicity of promising reduction without pain will eventually rebound, but by that time Kevin will have moved on. Lying to the electorate works for several years as was ably demonstrated by the previous Prime Minister. Eventually the electorate wake up and elect an alternative in the hope that things will get better. Needless to say they will be disappointed.
