This week’s gong goes to …. Golden Tonsils

Last night’s Media Watch 20th anniversary special was pure journalistic porn. Crikey loved reliving Stuart Littlemore’s giant specs, David Marr’s single, menacing arched eyebrow, the rainbow shirt that Ray Martin wore as he throttled John Safran, Derryn’s Hinch’s beard and Chris Mitchell’s remarkable hair (Crikey suggests he shares a penchant for hairdryers with his offspring’s godfather?).

All capped by 20 years of Wankley-worthy stories, including, of course, the Gold Walkley winning Cash for Comment scandal story.

So Media Watch , today Crikey salutes you, and what better way to do that than by bestowing upon John Laws this week’s Wankley?

Laws’ unedited interview, aired in its ugly entirety last night, showed that ol’ Golden Tonsils still doesn’t get it.

Laws, here’s a Golden Wankley to match your burnished throat.

David Manne”? If that’s Freudian for David Marr, I don’t even want to think about the implications…

Deputy editor Sophie Black’s stories operate on many levels. Thanks for your appreciative comments. Have changed Manne to Marr in the story, though it’s sad to see a good Freudian slip go.

As a consultant on several areas of business and corporate governance including conflict of interest, I was frankly amazed at the sheer insolence and absurdity of John Law’s remarks on the Media Watch special (7/05/09).

Oh dear! To think the unthinkable - that he might even have to conform to normal standards of ethical behaviour is so obviously not right, because - after all, he is an entertainer and can do no wrong.
At the end of the day some people just never get it, and Lawsy is clearly one of them.
That is a very well-deserved Wankley … does it come in Platinum?
