It's interesting to recall, Rudd and Labor sat on their hands for most of the debacle that was the Dr Haneef detention. Obviously stung by Howard and his storm troopers total boot licking of George Bush scare mongering doctrine, Rudd did not want to be seen as soft on terrorists so rather than have the guts to attack Howard as he should have, he left it to the Haneef legal team and some sections of the media along with thousands of Australians who flooded the talk shows and blogs supporting the good doctor. We knew there was something not right about this disgraceful behaviour by Keelty and his thugs at the request of Howard and that spooky Ruddock.
When Labor did come out swinging, they were wearing powder puffs, still too frightened to upset those Rudd was attempting to swing to Labor.
The hypocritical comments from Rudd and McClelland are seen for what they are. Manure!!!!

Your article about Keelty was so much in accord with my views that I am rather disturbed! It is best to have at least some point(s) of difference.

I think Keelty was a total disaster and the weasel words of Rudd and Ruddock in praise of Keelty only serve to confirm that they are just political muck.

The Haneef case was more than disgraceful -- it was disgusting; and Keelty was the one who was calling many of the shots.

So who will be the next Serjanus of the Praetorian Guard? Or will it cease to be the naked Emperor's personal perogative and fulfill its original function, serving the Commonwealth?

I'm serious about Mick's appearance. I often wondered why they called them passing out parades until I figured that's what troops did when Mick came past with his muff under a basin haircut and barking at them to smarten up ! Monty Python aside I feel immense empathy for a guy who clearly believed in his views of office, leadership and career. None of which he would find by becoming a political lackey. His memoirs will be interesting reading if he digs a bit deeper to find his integrity.

Keelty either lied, or was incompetent (you choose), whe he declared during the Corby furore that the AFP was unaware of any of any allegations of corrupt baggage handlers at SKSA, as proved by testimony under oath during the trial of the Customs ''whistleblower" in 2007. It was admitted, with details, that the AFP had received the Customs reports (leaked to the Oz in May 2005) in February 2005.
It was common practice for both Customs & the AFP to shop drug mules to Thai, Singapore & other unpleasant regimes to try to curry favour with those authorities to catch the fabled Mr Bigs, despite the blatant corruption of those same authoritarian entities.

Hey, very observant Chris Johnson. I have always felt uncomfortable about Keelty based upon his media persona. I think he is best to linger with the remnants of Howard and his lot. A disgraceful group of opportunist pragmatists if ever there was. Good riddance, Mick. you won't be missed.

I used to think Mick's career might have changed once he wrested himself from the Hitler toothbrush sitting under his nose and used some Brylcream on the Moe Howard hairdo ... you know when someone sees themselves looking like militant porridge everyday they act like it. Mick's changed my mind about appearances being deceiving. Last week when I saw a wet lettuce wearing a T-shirt emblazoned Greetings from Bali I said to a friend - there goes Mick Keelty.
