<br />Another baffling encounter with an adman came late y'day at the RMIT School of Applied Commnication Student Awards Ceremony. In a guest address Russel Howcroft of George Patterson and Gruen Transfer fame advocated for government subsidies for mass media advertising. That an adman earnestly suggests this to a audience of media academics is an apt indication of how perfectly disoriented the media landscape has become.

I think you took away what you wanted from Isherwood's lecture. Whilst I thought it was a tad on the self-indulgent side, I took away the idea that a something so simple can became something so big. Isherwood's career is a example of that. He showed us an insight into him, who he was and how he thought. Most people attending the talk (including myself) probably expected to have the three keys to Isherwood's success professed to them in an Anthony Robbins-style motivational speech (we are talking academics here). However, at the core of Isherwood talk was the was the obvious lesson to succeed you need to think outside the box. Think outside that box when interpreting his lecture, and it all becomes surprisingly clear.
