Up in Tweed Shire and out of mainstream media attention is the tiny village of Hastings Point where a group of no more than 20 residents with community backing have doggedly opposed unfit housing and holiday developments on exactly the same terrain as Botany Bay. Funded by raffles and sausage sizzles the locals regularly front the Land & Environment Court to fight a tier of government that supposedly represents them. Even after ICAC sacked the former council for its developer-friendly approach the administration (that included Lucy Turnbull) rubber-stamped such projects as 280-plus units in three-storey developments, housing estates and resumption of wetlands all located on finite and fragile ocean and estuary shores. Take a look at the area the Iemma Government green-lighted for a massive over-50's resort now underway and the photos of flood plains 4-metres under in a heavy rain event now being prepared for a housing estate. Lot 156! Governments and organisations ask communities to protect the environment as they trash it. Congratulations to the residents around Rockdale and Botany Bay we’ll keep you posted on our Battle of Hastings.
http://www.savehastingspoint.com/

http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/lc/qalc.nsf/962613d55d0cee2aca257146008027f7/33ffb4ac1f1254c4ca2574410024fb55!OpenDocument
