Can ANYBODY please tell me how this deal is in the best interests of Rio shareholders. Chinalco is going to make an absolute Mozza out of this deal at the expense of existing shareholders. It is clearly in the interests of short term share price (and director's incentives). No thought has been given to what will happen when we come out of this current crisis. Keep selling your assets to BHP, Rio.

Oh and whilst we're at it, please clear out the self-serving board of this company who is clearly not acting in the best interests of shareholders.

IMF here I come!!!

Swan is not going to block Chinalco.

Where is Rudd going to borrow his $200billion from?

Not the UK, US or EU that is for sure.

Its even simplier - the PRC central bankers are sitting on a mountain of USD denominated paper, which Paulsen/Bernanke and their sucessors are going to try to debase by unleashing the printing press. So rather than watch it devalue, we are going to play pass the parcel and one the greatest physcal asset buying sprees in history is on. China plays the long game and plays to win. This not the opening move. This is more like check. Lets see the next move.

It is really simple. The American economy is in long-term decline and the Chinese economy is in long-term ascent. Even if the Americans stage an eventual economic recovery, the Chinese economy will overtake them at some point in the medium term. The Chinese need our resources and we need their capital. The deal should be allowed to proceed.
