An excellent "interrogation" of the "toffy" Rio chairman by Stephen Mayne. You are a Star Stephen for not crumbling under his pompous retorts .Fully agree with the points you made re his fee (exhorbitant) and why isnt Rio based in Oz with more local NEDS!!

"reckless American CEO" are you not being too generous. We should give dear Tom the big A sooner rather than latter and Skinner along with him.

I guess the Chinese won't be all that enamoured with Telstra's tilt at some of their telco assets if the Anglo/American/Australian alliance closes ranks on this one will they? For little old Australia it is really a question of the lesser of two evils and your guess is as good as mine on that one. From what I can see, the dominant shareholders in most of our top 200 stocks at the moment are JP Morgan Nominees, Citigroup Nominees and HSBC Nominees so I wonder whether that is any better to be honest. They may be representing a lot of investors but they still control the investment and they are all controlled by their US masters. You can only wonder what kind of pressure they could exert on the decisions of CEO's and CFO's. Could be wrong mind you! Whatever happened to AMP? They used to be leading shareholders before they were demutualised and they weren’t direct lenders.
