A cartoon about the bushfires…

Crikey is keen to do its bit to help the Victorian bushfire relief effort.
Later today you’ll be able to buy signed prints of today’s First Dog On The Moon cartoon from the Crikey shop.
The proceeds will be split between the Red Cross and Wildlife Victoria bushfire appeals.
We’ll send a separate email later today when the Crikey shop is in action, or check our homepage.

Dominique, rethink the car part , it’s sincere
Beautifully done FD.
You’ve got it just right.

Such poor taste! People perished in those cars. Sickening! Disturbing!
I don’t know whether you were trying to be funny or provide a community service with the First Dog cartoon today, but it is tasteless. I had convinced myself that it was a community service message, and almost thought it was ok until I saw the photo of the incinerated cars. People may have died in those cars. I don’t think the Herald Sun would even stoop to that level.
Not to be faulted FD. Excellent!
echeers
Certainly it is sickening. What is even more so is permission given by the state government to extend the outer limits of Melbourne. For a city of four million people to take up as much land as they want is grotesque. This same area is accommodates the entire area of Greater Buenos Aires (approx.14 million). Mexico City (21 million). No wonder so many people have died. Blame state government and John Brumby.
I think use of the photo of the cars in your cartoon is in extremely poor taste. Given a number of people died in that accident - and horrible deaths at that I think you could have left it out.
Aren’t we all delicate? Why do you think FD put that shot in? This is one bloody time FD shouldn’t play for a laugh. Nor did he. How many letters of complaint have friends or relatives who have died over the past few days? None?
Then let your disgust be directed at the GUILTY party. Our State Government, that’s who. Try to feel nauseated by the true evil. Not a reflected evil.
Profoundly insensitive use of a picture where people most probably died. This is a cartoon - people read it expecting to laugh…not retch.
Thanks FD. Like economic stimulus bushfires should be treated with the “go hard, go early” regime.
