Joel B1, if I were an out of work miner I know which of the following two options I would prefer:
1. A 'green job'
2. Unemployment benefits

If the 'green jobs' pay $70 less than what miners were getting then that would suggest they are now being paid about as much as the rest of us. They enjoyed a greed bubble and now it has burst!

Obviously the only people who should be allowed to enjoy plasma televisions and waste money at the Casinos are the obscenely super-rich.

Stick to your black-and-white rabbit eared box and your Keno, you disgusting plebians. Or I'll run you over in my 4-wheel drive while driving my kids to polo practice.

"The program will be delivered through .... and the non-government school sector". I wonder if we, the Commonwealth of Australia, will own the new buildings in the "non-government" schools. But I guess not. Just another transfer of wealth from the public to the private sector. And I bet the non-goverment schools will have the best and fastest application writers to ensure they maximise their opportunity.

Class Warfare: No they won't. No matter how much they hate Rudd they know that her Majesty's loyal opposition
are the pits of despair. Unless they-with the possible exception of Malcolm Fra...sorry, Turnbull-should all be put away in a concentration camp, with padded walls, musak, plain food and games of bridge on solid gold (24k) playing cards. These cards being pure gold they will bend very easily. Just like the people using them.

In their place will be a bunch of people trawled from our entire population who are almost honest, free of religious right-wing self-gratification, open to new ideas, and prepared to kick the National Party in the guts.

Bernard is mixing up taxpayers with recipients of other people's taxes. Not everyone gets stimulated. The real taxpayers continue to get sucked dry. They will vote Liberal next time.

Need some opinions here, guys. I work part-time and study part-time (doing what this country's practically begging me to do, teaching). Don't have any children. Will I see any money from the Rudd-stimu-gasm, or will I continue to pay taxes so people who HAVE full-time employment can get a bonus?

Thanks.

A sensible package displaying a real sense of urgency in the potentially catastrophic economic chaos we are facing. Labor will not get everything right as hindsight will show but no government could. It has to act very quickly and on the best advice available. Whatever happened to the bipartisan support promised by Malcolm Turnbull? It never emerged of course because, as usual, the Opposition is focused on one thing and one thing only: political point scoring aimed at the next election. The national interest will always run a distant second.

I love the way the positions of the installers of the ceiling insulation are classified as "green jobs". That's what Bob Brown meant when he said all those sacked miners could be retrained in "green jobs".

A 2hr TAFE course and a pay reduction of about $70/hr, those lucky miners! Wow, I must retrain and get a "green job"

I earn less than 100k and I'm a little worried.
Am I in financial peril? I didn't feel in peril yesterday. I was quite happy actually. I could even afford a Crikey subscription.
Is something really bad about to happen? Maybe I should start buying canned food and chocolate to put in my cellar? Maybe some steel bars for my windows?

I am staggered.

Rudd has morphed from 'a fiscal conservative' to a profligate waster of other people's money and so far to the left of Whitlam that he is positioning Australia squarely in the 'mainstream' of a sewer.

This is "uber alles", Bernard Keane, ideologue absurdity.

p.s. The 'b.' stands for 'thousand million'!
