I was a student at UNSW at the time of the Killing Fields - on campus I opposed the activities of the Khmer Rouge - but no one believed that such an atrocity could be occurring. No one.

Often fellow students suggested that people who opposed the Khmer Rouge, and the NLF and Vietcong for that matter, by definition supported the evil Americans who always killed indiscriminately. How depressing it was to discover that the Khmer Rouge ands their peers to the East were quite discriminate and deliberate in their selection of those to be killed.
