Good satire is often written by those with more than a passing knowledge of the subject they're talking about. Unfortunately, Walter Slurry has gone off half-cocked and it would seem his entire knowledge of cricket comes from the opinions of Peter Roebuck (another commentator with no idea) making this neither witty nor amusing.

Maybe next time Walter.

Just my 2 cents worth but if people want to read a glowing, cheerleading tribute to Matthew Hayden then maybe they should pick up a copy of the Hun. Walter raises some fair points here, one of them being that he has struggled with quality new ball bowling at times. I know Hayden has scored plenty of runs against most countries he faced and retired with a good average but were there really any great quicks that he faced?

I bet Geoff Marsh, Mark Taylor and Michael Slater would have had retired with better averages if they had the good fortune of playing Test cricket this past decade. Im not sure Hayden would have stood a metre in front of the batting crease if Ambrose, Marshall, Donald or Akrim were running in to bowl at him either. Averages and stats don't tell everything...

Walter may have been spot on on the Christian sledger title - but flat track bully is probably just a little incorrect. I do not like the way he plays, but he has played the game well (scored runs that is) against many sides in many countries. Not just Zimbabwe.

Attack him for his sledging sure, but his run scoring ability? On what basis?

Scott Rhodes: spot on. Not what I subscribed to Crikey for.

Actually thought Walter was spot on here. Hayden's always been the worst sledger in the game and no matter how well he could bat, his borrishness reflected poorly on Australian cricket. About time someone exposed the double standards in sport.
