Alex (or whoever is responsible for subbing your copy) -- the word is wreaking, not wrecking. It's always a pity when spelling or grammatical mistakes distract readers from the interesting content of an article.

How very partisan of you, Alex:

"Seasoned hands are asking: 'Why has he been rewarded with a highly-paid job in Sydney. What did he ever do for the Labor Party?'"

Maybe it's because he was the best man for the job and those appointing him believe in good governance? Is that even considered a possibility?

Hells bells these appointments have nothing to do with professional judgement. Its the good old game of political nepotism and keeping faith with the factions. The Labor and Liberal parties are totally incestuous dynasties with members and followers first cabs off the public service rank. Cases in point include Ian Macdonald slotting his former colleague and now wife Anita Gylseth into a senior role within his portfolio as Brian Loughnane’s spouse Peta Credlin survives a staffing spill in Malcolm Turnbull’s office because she holds a party-fixed workplace agreement. Of course our inbred public service isn’t good for the nation but we keep giving political parties full sway on who serves them and us. Hence Rudd’s office is filling fast with the stars of CMC, ICAC, failed policies and administrative bungles as full-blooded political zealots get the nod over professional players. Well, there’s a positive - at least Wilkins, Kruk and Pierce are our first asylum seekers to be granted clemency.

Alex Mitchell does not write the title headline. Nor does he have his piece hacked to pieces so as to remain minimally critical of the Ruddmeister. That would be Jonathan 'Marx is too right wing' Green.
