Here's a thought. Why don't newspapers sack their journalists and instead fill their pages with stories from PRs about their clients and associated interests. And, Ava, you are on the public record, didn't you write a book? Ellis was gracious, he gave kudos to Peter Luck. Time to move on...

Clearly Ava Hubble must have struck a nerve. Why else would Eric Ellis spend so much effort attacking her? If she sold a story to the Weekend Australian, that qualifies as journalism, and so Ellis' claim to have been the first to interview Utzon is wrong. Why not be gracious, admit it and move on?

Seemingly very good points, only spoiled by the bitchiness that seems to be a requirement for all Crikey articles.

Eric, I think you protest too much. I had three long interviews with Utzon. I think his replies to my questions deserve to be included in the record. You have tried to condemn those interviews as PR fluff. But have you read them? In any event, I think the public has a right to known they exist in the record. To suggest, as you do, that my 1983 full page interview in the Weekend Australian was PR trash, not only insults me, but the paper's editors of the day. Incidentally, while I was at Fairfax my assignments included reporting quite extensively for the paper about the Opera House. Bestest, Ava Hubble
