The media blackout attempt by Israel is a real problem for a democratic West. John Lyons in the The Oz today asked a big big question after being relegated behind Greg Sheridan on page 1 with the usual ideology and rhetoric. Lyons asks - why was the humanitarian food and medical supplies kept to such a low level during the 6 month lull or truce, that is as distinct from contraband or weapons that might come through the tunnels.

This does actually evidence Israel failing to uphold it's side of the truce by allowing a few per cent of the truck flow of supplies of years ago pre Hamas Govt. It's pretty obvious Israel has been applying collective punishment during the recent truce with their blockade of supplies.

As best I can tell from the general reports the relative trickle of supplies was strangled further during the major breakdown in the truce in November. There is little doubt Israel have been applying a policy to break the Hamas Govt by starving the Gazans.

Let's hear Israel's ambassador address that instead of lining up Paul McGeogh of the SMH. The trouble with the rebuttals of the Ambassador about not seeking to break Hamas is the aforementioned starvation ration, and the devestation of the civil infrastructure of government. McGeogh's thesis still fits the overall factual matrix so far.

It is a wonderful thing to see a substantial section of the Australian jewish community starting to speak out for themselves rather than leave the "jewish" voice to those tired old apologists for anything and everything Israel does. The refusal of the Israeli lobby to say anything remotely critical of Israeli policy and their claim that they speak for all Jews is a huge contributing factor to anti-jewish racism and is an insult to the millions of jewish holocaust dead and to the magnificent record of jewish intellectual support for democracy and human rights over generations. Great respect to Anthony and to all the other signaturies. I know how viciously the Israeli lobby attack independently minded jews. Salaam and shalom to you all.
