If the ABC do not get funding for a public affairs channel - I presume the ABC will be allowed to drop their existing coverage of Parliament - especially as the Parliament will be screened on the new Aust. Pay TV channel. No money, no coverage, I think it would be fair although the pollies may not like it.

Margaret - a public affairs channel was originally proposed by Jonathan Shier when he was seeking funding for additional ABC digital channels - Shier in fact referred to C-SPAN in his presentation about it to the Howard Gov't. Scott has no special claim to the idea at all.

And if Sky was in such great odour in Canberra why did the ABC successfully retain the international TV contract a couple of years back despite a huge lobbying campaign from News Ltd in favour of Sky?

Clearly, Mr Scott has discovered the tough side of love with Rupert. Having kissed, he is now having to bite the pillow. At least there is the love of the Oz to go on with, for now.
