Dear First Dog, the cartoon is great. Especially the bit about the cane-toad. Malcolm’s ghost looks v v similar to out late, unlamented CANE-TOAD who inflicted an eleven year plague on this benighted land.
Memo to Julie Bishop from her local veterinaria, Robert Strauss F.R.A.C.S, (Berlin), B.V.M (Ontario) B. M. V. S (Prague). As per your inquiry about the lean buckskin in stall four, I would suggest the following treatment.
She needs a bit of attention to her off- side front hoof, a tranquillizer, and a drench. Her teeth could do with a bit of work, and I would recommend worming her, and I’d keep an eye on the off-side hind fetlock. Then I turf her out into that nice restful paddock of yours, the one facing South East, for at least a year. If she has to be brought out of the paddock at any stage I’d recommend something peaceful (the back bench might smarten her up a bit) and her near-side hind has a bit of foot-rot but I’ve cleaned that out. I’m a bit worried about her poverty line. If it doesn’t fill out a bit I’d recommend another peaceful stretch in the paddock.
Sincerely,
Robert Strauss
Julia Gillard can have most people for dinner-I think she’s terrific-perhaps Tony Abbott could have the shadow treasury brief. I would love Julia to do him in. I think she could handle this Jesuit bore.

If this were in a dinosaur newspaper I would be able to cut it out and stick it on the fridge to amuse me until the next one. But I can’t … this is v frustrating. How about having a downloadable pdf component to the site and to 1st Dog so I could do this … please. If you check your records you’ll see I have faithfully bought badges, tea towels and was surely one of the first to suggest a 1st dog anthology … carn!

Ah premier pooch, you’ve done it again. Such sweet memories of Christmases past. Plus, that koala’s really beginning to look the part.

Surely a “reasons why I love Julie Bishop, despite what I keep saying about her” cartoon is coming up FD?
Love the sand paper canetoad.

Truly brilliant!! Roofing iron and rat poison? Oh its like an 8-year-olds spack attack in the playground. And isn’t the grey koala taking on Malcolmtent’s character. Well done FD.
