The Coalition of the Unwilling's backdown on the private schools' funding bill being tied to a national curriculum and Revelation of the schools' private income leads me to ask: Who killed Christopher Robin?

If Turnbull has no authority, how can you explain Heffernan voting for same sex financial reform? Sure, he didn't speak to any reading of the bill, but he voted for it. As did they all.

Bernard,
Malcolm Turnbull's authority is unchallenged and unchallengeable. He may one day become the finest PM this country has ever had.
Nick Minchin was indecisive rather than subversive, but it wasn't a good look to be loitering around the toilets and it certainly is a health hazard to consume food and drink there.
Barnaby Joyce will go the way of other mavericks such as Sarah Palin. They always end up hanging in the abbatoir. Now that the slaughtermen are Afghans, he'll at least receive a kosher killing.
Bill Heffernan's vote for same sex financial reform is the result of his Damascene conversion. Praise the Lord! Bill is not and never was a homophobe. Praise Lourdes! Praise margerine. Praise Crisco. Big-hearted Bill is the most misunderstood bugger I know.
As for John Howard and his barrackers in the Murdoch press, their job is to keep reminding us why we tossed them out. Every time Little Johnnie sets off an airport alarm, we remember his tin ear.

Indeed Mungo the Magnificent, your last few lines summed Turnbull up beautifully...."he may continue as Liberal leader, but he will never become Prime Minister. Actually he probably won’t anyway, but at least a change of style would give him a chance."

Your question
"Was this the Liberal version of a political Third Way?"
Well it’s some other way, it’s their specially defined, promised and community awaited bipartisanship.
It's a storm in a teacup. It will be forgotten in a few months if not sooner. Malcolm makes a lot more sense than Kevin Rudd and that's what really matters.
