Re 'Shake-up at The West' and the paragraph' The most strident criticism came from Labor Attorney-General and Health Minister Jim McGinty, who, both in and outside parliament, accused the editor of corrupting the ethics of young journalists' Firstly, Jim McGinty is the FORMER Labor Attorney-General and Health Minister...... Labour lost the recent State Election, and he almost lost his safe seat of Fremantle to Greens candidate Adele Carles.
Secondly, and to paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies " "Well, he would (say that) , wouldn't he?" McGinty's ineptitude in both his ministerial posts gave the editor plenty to criticise.
Finally, Lawrence Apps writes: You come across people all the time in business, professional and social circles who say they no longer buy the newspaper because they can’t stand it' Really? All the time? He must mix in different circles from me, as the only person I know who has admitted they dont buy it anymore is my Mother, and thats because she reads it for free at her retirement village.
Tom 'Rusty' Twice

Well Tom, I must mix in the right circles as everyone I know thinks the West has slipped so far down hill that it is the laughingstock that Lawrence Apps states it is.

I think with McGinty and the West, you enter the chicken and the egg dilemma. Was he incompetent or was he smeared. Personally, I think a smear is more likely. Anyone reading the West during the recent state election was left with no uncertainty as to who the editorial staff wanted to win. Shocking when there is no real alternative for local news (in print form).

The West is a rag ! I used to get it every weekday and on Saturday but now have stopped it except mondays, wednesdays and saturdays for the sport, feature sections, real estate and classifieds. Their political reporters and op-ed writers are all liberal party right wing hacks and most local news is written in sensationalist style with the reporters spruiking their and the editors political slant.
Unfortunately, the only other option is the Oz and we know who they barrak for.....groan

No longer read it. Find the Oz more intelligent, balanced and contemporary. And Crikey does better quality salacious.

Really, cant you find some better critics than shocking politicians with huge egos and editors that compete with the paper. As far as I see it the paper has been a disaster for over a decade...at least over the last 6 years Armstrong injected some life into what was otherwise just a license to print advertsing!
