No. If we as a society are happy to accept taxes from a thing, then it is legal, and deterring companies from selling legal product isn't something we should do. Make the product illegal, or leave it alone. The end result of nanny-state bans on advertising will end up with bans on meat, for obscure ethical reasons that happen to suit some lobby group or another.
Given the overwhelming negative effects of alcohol throughout our community, such a ban is only a matter
of time.

I like a drink...or five....but if you're caught staggering drunk in the street, causing any kind of public nuisance, it should be a first time fine of $1000.

Like many Australians, I'm fed up with seeing hopelessly drunk people in public, who are both a danger to themselves & the community.

Refreshing to read something about grog that doesn't enshrine the right of the liquor industry to sell as much grog as they can and bear none of the costs of the damage done to individual and social health. All the evidence from overseas and from Australia indicates that supply reduction is the most effective tool for reducing use of harmful substances - and that complementary demand reduction (no advertising!) further reduces risks and damage. It worked for ciggies - bring it on for grog!

Australians are only concerned about alcohol when it causes social problems, This is a very sensible idea which no politicians will take on board Alcohol is highly glamorised in TV commercials in the same way that cigarettes were it is time that governments started to take the problem seriously and to realize that prevenative measures are always more effective
