Good story. Rudd's overwork is a story. His general health also. Funny how some people (Larry Buttrose in The Oz last Thursday?) think democracy is only election day or what the govt says or does after that as if some hierarchical HMV.

Keep at 'em, I say. Who were the special interests buying access.? Does Rudd fail to delegate or exercise judgement in his staff leading to exhaustion? Or indeed the daisy cutter? Or was he suffering from the staff Christmas dinner with a bit of binge, as suggested in the Naked Eye column in the Sydney Sun Herald?

Another thing about real democracy being a constant work in progress - the grassroots empowerment via the internet (evidenced by the Obama ascendance over traditional political models) remain increasingly in play. I found this as a local councillor: Once people give themselves permission, or some authority figure gives it to them, to be politically involved it's quite addictive and I doubt folks there or here will be unlearning the taste.

But special interests don't like it. They always default to the back door, top down, greedy approach. Let it rip.

Whats your point Bernard? Frankly who gives a stuff who attended the dinner. Nothing better to write about? I would have thought there was plenty to exercise your brain, not who attended a Labor party whoopee dinner.

There's a point here, who are these folks paying for access to? Is Rudd wanting to keep his nose clean? Rudd may well be ill and, as every teacher knows, needs to slow down periodically to stay on top of it. I reckon there's more in this than David is giving it credit for.

On second thoughts, maybe Bernard must make sure a head roles with every article from now on... only takes one taste apparently.
