Yeah congrats. It's very good for the soul doing honest community representation at local council level. In my experience the main thing is to farm the paper avalanche amongst the relevant ward councillors, do read the important council wide related reports because harried staff do make mistakes or cut corners, and as you say remain scrupulously even handed. Later on when you get into the swing of things remember the golden rule - it's a democracy even when you think you know best with 'your superior wisdom'. Folks have the right to be wrong on discretionary issues (and wear the consequences). And finally watch out for all those free snacks at meetings. They add up.
