One thing hasn't changed in the Big Media - some ABC staff on the talkback line seem just as prejudiced to new media. Quite patronising and contemptuous of this blogger for the 12 months. A number of times my call gets as far as outlining my concept for a comment, which is accepted on its merits for open line and then 'what's your name?' then terminated.

I'm willing to acknowledge that my view is hardly indispensible but being blocked for 12 months plus must be something of a record. What about my 8 cents a day? What about my taxes? What about my birthright?

What if I don't want to write for Unleashed official abc blog in a gilded cage? It does seems to relate to my role as a political blogger in the trenches. I'm not a member of a political party. I don't have any criminal convictions. I've never been sued for defamation. I don't hit people. I am a lawyer with a science degree. So what gives?

It's not that my comment is declined, that's fine, it's the lame dishonest excuses. It's impertinent borderirng on abusive. I even helped out the son of a staffer at the abc earlier this year to get off a legal charge over a free speech issue pro bono, but it makes no difference. (It was reported by Chris Merritt in The Oz media section.) Nor is it just the ABC. Sydney uni try to ban me off their campus just for reporting an education rally until I reported it to the Ombudsman.

How many others are on the blacklist? Do other bloggers get similar treatment? What's the editorial guideline? Just wondering. It doesn't bother me all that much (though this long grouch suggests otherwise), as my blogging free speech takes priority over these slings and arrows.

Lately my host cut my traffic counter, and yesterday the Telstra phone connection finally went totally dead. I suppose this is what you get on the frontier.

Not so sure about the "welcome immigrants to the new land" analogy and all that "with challenges come opportunities" MBA malarky.

Another version of noble immigrants might be:

Arrived in new land and was told skills from other land were worthless here.

"Computers do most of that work -sure they make a few mistakes but the programs are getting better."

Advised to take TAFE or Uni course despite having 30 years experience in my home land where I took great pride in working on quality product known for its credibility.

Forced out of old land by fascist dictator who stole all the land's profits for himself and his cronies.

Opposition could not mobilise as it was sacked as soon as members didn't agree with dictator or bully boys.

Formed ghetto in new land with other similar types and drank, took drugs and stole stuff.

Yes, they were going to do Perth this year. Then the organiser told me they were busy writing a white paper on the subject and would need to defer Perth until February. Luckily they managed to squeeze in a Melbourne event. Anyway, at least I was told about the re-scheduling. Another panelist is still waiting to hear.
