Am I alone in thinking this article doesn't make much sense? I thought the reporting about this had already made pretty clear that the concern over use of email by the President is that all presidential correspondence is officially recorded and that as such informal communcation like emails to friends from within the Oval Office could be problematic. It has little to do with security or the American psyche or standing up to Luddite Republicans.

And as for the matter of it being 'trifling', the original story was just that - an article in the NYT filling the void in real transition stories with interesting little questions like that of Obama's Blackberry. It is writers like this trying to link it to deep issues in the 'American Psyche' that are over the top.
