Thanks for moving him on and hopefully out of the media altogether. Penberthy couldn't raise himself from the prep-school lavatory humour and sex with a squiggles-twist assuming his paper's readership was as IQ/EQ challenged as he was. He made a mockery of Rupert's appeal for 21st century standards. You can't expect a populace to rise above ordinary when you keep dishing out pigs swill.

So now we know what the Sun King was talking about when he told Australia at the Boyer lecture to "not put up with bludgers". Perhaps the pathetic and endless jibes at Facebook being a breeding ground for pedos , perverts etc , whilst Rupe's MySpace is the virtual equivelant finally became too much. The public may be gullible but not quite as much as Murdoch thinks. It's no problem having a readership of dills if that's what sells newspapers but advertisers finally begin to realise they are wasteing their money.

When a reader goes through a paper and finds much that is of no interest or is too partisan and is therefore off putting then sales go down.

The breathless, hammering approach to so much news reporting appeals to a slice of the population - a slice that is less likely to have a paper delivered each day or to go to a newsagents to buy a paper. These people can get news on the radio or tv and others interested in more analytical analysis will go to the internet where the news can be found on TV sites or newspapers of the world. Others will buy books as the daily cycle is so much the same.

This is probably the start of a number of changes in the news empire. Adelaide has a new editor of its Sunday News paper too.

In the interests of accuracy -- aren't we all devotees of the form? -- Peter Blunden is not and never has been general manager of the Herald and Weekly Times. (The position was abolished when John Webster left in 2006.) He is managing director (CEO if you like).

David Penberthy was always too young and too immature for the postion of Editor of the Daily Telegraph. His tenure has been marked by startling campaigns eg the Daily Telegraph's coverage of the Cronulla Riots, which probably held stimulate and encourage the rioters, and the stories about immigrants being given preference for public housing, which was a not so veiled attack on middle eastern migrants just after the Cronulla riots.

Now he has just been running the most vehement campaign against the Rees Government following the Mini Budget. Who needs the Liberal Party when you have the Daily Telegraph under the editorship of David Penberthy? I don't agree with the Rees Governments proposals to privatise ferries, prisons, electricity retail, PILLAR, and waste services, but I do think that the role of the print media is to present the news, not make the news as some sort of quasi political party! It is ironic that his last campaign was to get the government sacked, and he is the one who has moved on from his job!

Maybe David Penberthy has finally become too much even for the proprietors of the Daily Telegraph. I look forward to a more mature newspaper now he has gone!

Jenny Haines
Newtown. NSW.

Doesn't really matter who edits it - it will still be a contemptible, trashy paper.
