Whatever happened to…

Dear Mr firstdog (I can say that now, after having seen you on Insiders. If that was really you.)

Thank you for satisfying my curiosity about what happened to the Cane Toads for a Free Tibet Action Committee after their misadventures in Beijing. I was reminded of them earlier this week, when a visiting Chinese Government delegation gave me and many of my colleagues Beijing Olympics souvenirs by way of thank you gifts. I suspect that we will be meeting more and more Chinese delegations, all of them loaded with similar paraphenalia - part of a concerted effort on the part of the Chinese Government to empty the vast warehouses of mugs, ties, pins and so on that now dot the landscape of the Middle Kingdom.

Such is the price of effective diplomacy.

I would like to say, though, that I do not think the Cane Toads for a Free Tibet Action Committee’s work is done. By no means. But they should be considering a change of tactics, especially now the global spotlight has moved from Beijing back to Washington.

Perhaps they should team up with Jasper.

Perhaps Jasper could be sent to stay with the Obama family, on a permanent or temporary exchange of First Pets.

Then we would se some action.

I look forward to their further adventures.

    Yours

Is this really your final choice for the persona of the Hon Leader of the Opposition? You may like to consider that you are sailing close to the wind of denigration of small furries. We did our own gallup poll here on the forest floor and the watermelon won hands down.

Fantastic news about the Cane Toads being rescued FirstDog.
    Quite made my day.
Sad about that chap in the tree though.

He does seem a tad deranged.
Perhaps it’s a new strain of “wet bottom”.
Anyway, let’s hope they can find a cure before it’s too late.

I wonder what percentage of Crikey/FDOTM readers are public servants. High I’d guess.

Well done, FD — the “Common sense” panel says it all in relation to (1) the utter futility of Question Time, and (2) the shattered expectation that Turnbull would be a welcome change from Nelson.

And, what’s happened to Nelson’s hair? My second favourite character of recent times, after Jasper of course.
