A teacher at a western suburbs school once told me, at least they didn't have a problem with illegal drugs. Glue and solvents, yes, but nothing illegal - the kids can't afford them.

Having been to a private boys school myself (Ivanhoe) I have to say that there definitely seems to be a correlation between the excesses of the last day and the cost of the school...

For Crikey's sub-eds - spelling mistakes again? It's spelt Schadenfreude.
Very droll, Ben...but funny.

I don't think Xavier boys have changed that much since the late '60's....there was a hardcore clique of witless show ponies back then that when charged with 'beerdka' (i.e. beer with a shot of vodka...giving new meaning to the term 'let's have a few beers') who did at least as much criminal damage as their current counterparts.

The only difference is that back then, the media wouldn't touch a story like that (bad taste you know), whereas now, the media would pay for the drinks & the story.

In my experience, there was a direct link between the scale of a muck-up prank, and the school fees. e.g: at Caufield Grammar, they vandalised teachers' cars, then stole one of them.

For the record, I was a very well behaved Christian Brothers (St Josephs College - Geelong) boy whose worst 'muck up' crime was to vomit on the school high jump bags.

C'mon Crikey readers: how about some year 12 break up personal anecdotes?
