This election appears to be essentially over. I know that there are lots of noises about not appearing to cocky, Bradley effect etc but Obama is a virtual certainty for three reasons.

Firstly, and obviously, because of his poll lead - somewhere between 7 and 10%.

Secondly the superiority of Obama's ground campaign which will have (and is having, given the extent of early voting) an unparalleled get-out-the vote effort.

Thirdly, even a national security crisis, contrived or otherwise, will not benefit McCain - polling shows the two to be roughly tied in terms of their perceived ability to deal with such a crisis.

Fourthly, the McCain campaign is visibly weakening and drawing close to becoming farcical as Palin's lacks become ever more apparent. It is extremely unlikely that McCain could powerfully push through for an upset, given his modest skills and the Palin drag factor.

So, it''s over. 300 minimum with 350-360 more likely.

This was fun to read. If you enjoy depression, as Rundle clearly does, then Atlanta must be the best place on this godless earth. If those relentless smilers on Jetstar could fly us all there for $299 return the world would be a beautiful place. Stuff Phuket, Atlanta is where it’s all at.
