I disagree. The most catatrophic and lasting consequence of this financial crisis is that it will demote climate change to something which we think we can get around to when the real work of government is done. The greatest cost of the credit bubble is not in dollars lost, but in the opportunity for investment in real infrastructure forgone. It is now clear that we needed those proposerous years since the 90s, as we should have used every one since the 1960s, to build against the coming climate meltdown. Now we will get self-appointed 'hard heads' and 'realists' fiddling the books while the world burns.

The trouble is the best hope for the Planet is a credit crisis ongoing. When UK leading policy institutes say carbon emissions have to be cut some huge amount by 2015 - well the rest is a joke really. Start growing your own food, nationalising the housing stock so people have shelter, and scale everything down. Hey I know that won't happen but it should if people really believed in best science.
